We bought a 1934 Riley Lynx in Singapore in the mid 60's, it was pretty much a basket case and we restored it. I entered her in the last Singapore Grand Prix to be held on the old road circuit, and then she was shipped to the UK. Unfortunately, as a young, broke person at the time, I had to sell the car. She was sold to Alan Pye in Norwich around 1971 and I lost track of her then. The license number was FCJ747D. If anyone has any knowledge of the old lady, I would very much appreciate it.

DVLA has nothing on file for it so must have been off the road for quite a while...you could try the Riley Register...

That's a strange number for a 1934 car to be carrying. Are you sure that's right? The 'D' suffix indicates a car first registered in 1966. It's possible that the car was issued with that number by DVLA at the time by some mistake, and it was later replaced with something more age-related. I seem to recall a lot of problems at DVLA at the time as they were just beginning all the changes which led to computerization and their subsequent deterioration. If that's the case it will now be rather difficult to trace the car without the new number. You may have a record of the chassis number somewhere, which may be of some help. If it's a Riley NINE Lynx (the most usual case), then the chassis number would probably start 602...

My best guess is that the car was registered FCJ 747D when it was imported to the UK from Singapore. So, 1966/7. This was the case with the famous 'Metric MPH' which was owned by Bob Lutz, who imported it to the UK in 1976 whilst he was managing Ford's Dagenham works. It was subsequently registered SJN 283R.
Back to the Lynx. Upon looking in the records compiled in 1982 by David Styles, I can't find any records of it.
However, let us not give up hope. It is quite possible that the car was re-registered with a 6-digit plate and is still running today, or if not, is parked snugly in someone's garage or workshop waiting to be revived.

At that time cars were given plates for first date of registration ( in the UK) which is why I have number of photos of A B & C reg RMs. they have changed the rules and it is now desirable to prove date of build unless you want to get your car to be registered as new and therefor comply with 2016 emissions/lighting and seat belt etc standards and MOT in 3 years time. I suspect that most owners have had them registered with age related plates to stop the silly comments, and police attention. That reg is not listed by Styles in 1989 so wasn't known to the R Reg then by that reg.
