Yes you chaps are spot on, the car is fitted with a rubber bung under the rear seat, they all have this. I have tried filling through this opening and made a right mess. Cleaning the top of the damper prior to removing the filler plug is a bugg*r of a job. When the damper is almost or is empty of fluid as my one were often, and leaking/dripping oil below the car, quite a lot of grime collects on these. I think we can agree, adding the oil through that plug is tedious, and the arm needs to be worked through the full motion. I tried this from below, I disconnect the link at the rear spring, and pump away. I realized however once under there, with the car raised and spanners in hand, simply removing two more nuts to remove the damper made the cleaning & filling operation much easier and cleaner for me. FWIW I simply followed the instructions. but chose to use hydraulic jack oil . The best is, I will never have to do this again during my stewardship. The dampers now have a proper modern radial seal fitted that will/should outlast the car and me. Salut Bruce PS: I thought I would post this funny snap of my dampers prior to being dispatched to the rebuilder. I put a 'diaper' on each to mitigate an oily package. B

What company did you use for the rebuild Bruce? A tad far for you to take advantage I should think? In Wisconsin, US of A there is a firm, World Wide Auto parts that does this damper rebuild service for big box vendors such as Moss Motors and many other vendors as well as individuals. Link below www.nosimport.com/Easy to deal with owners and they provide a spec sheet to fill out that allows one to provide details if needed ; save and use original fasteners, don't sandblast the bodies for factory finish, only paint the arms etc. Nice for me to be close enough, (1500km's ) although I still needed 4 weeks turn around for rebuild and transit times. Thankfully winter is long over here . Salut Bruce

I have already made an initial contact with that company about my front dampers, so good to hear they are the ones you used. They did reply "Please send pictures so I can accurately quote" which has me slightly confused. They are still on the car, not dismantled and the oil leaks are invisible because of the black paint. Do they just want to confirm I have a one-point-five and not a 1.5?
Searching online and word-of-mouth I havn't find anyone doing them in Australasia, although several engineers (more skilled than me) have rebuilt their own.
One of my front ones is not bad, the other lost complete oil contents within a week of topping up.
