Chaps, I am R & R and greasing the front wheel hub bearings. When I disassembled I find my hubs had quite beat up 'flat' washers between castellated nut and bearing. I bought new ones, ATA4034 (click to enlarge) and now have a rather simple question. I have asked elsewhere and no conclusion, oddly enough. These proper hardened washers have a bevel edge on one side. So does bevel face bearing or nut? TIA Bruce

Generally if the bevel is on the outer diameter, it should be on the bearing side..but its not critical and they will be fine whichever way you install them.. Are you still running standard ball bearings ? if its apart for cleaning, be sure these are installed the correct way round :- thrust side pointing towards seal on inside.. and towards hub nut on outside.. To convert to taper roller bearings use the moss motors kit # 125-822 which does both front hubs. (this is designed for the AHSprite/MG midget) ..I generally take that route due to the issues of getting the clearance correctly shimmed with ball bearings... taper rollers are set by tension of hub nut.. which are done up till they meet resistance..and then backed off so the hub spins freely without any slack in the bearings. and nut is then locked in place with the split pin.. . the std ball brgs are shimmed and the nut done up fully tight before fitting the split pin...

Thanks Tim, Yes I still have the standard ball bearings in place. These hubs will remain that way for my stewardship.
This hardened washer is a puzzle for sure, not sure why the bevel is there other than to confuse?
Salut
Bruce
Edit;
I did some investigating and sure enough this bevel is there for a reason. or design versus coincidence.
I measured the bearing and it measures, 28.75mm
same dimension as the bevel on the washer,
So bevel to bearing as Tim explained.
