Has anyone had to replace their cable? Mines missing, I have the replacement but no information on how to fit. I've checked the download manuals but can't find instructions. I'm hoping someone knows!
Thanks,
Simon

Hello Simon, I have never replaced a speedometer cable on my Riley. What I have done however is remove the dash. To do this I needed to disconnect the cable from the dial, (tachometer as well FWIW) . The end of the cable, (same both ends) has a knurled sleeve nut that may be tight. Mine was and I needed to undo the clamps, #7, 8 holding the dial into the dash and pull the dial out prior to undoing the cable. The exploded view may serve you; FWIW this should be straight forward. There is felt type sound insulation behind the dash against the firewall that may make finding the grommet #18 hole for the cable a tad difficult. The transmission end will probably be tight, and greasy. Support the car well on stands before crawling under. B

Hello Simon, I trust the exploded view will help you. I agree, this iteration of the forum is much quieter than the previous one, and unfortunately the information gold mine from the previous forum was unfortunately lost. I try to help out fellow owners from my experiences of waking and enjoying a MK 1 one-point-five. Being in Canada limits my involvement with the club hence my postings .................... Keep well and have fun Bruce

A bit late seeing this post and you may have sorted it by now. I did mine a while back it was quite a simple job. You can with long enough arms replace the gearbox side without jacking the car up but it's easier and less fiddly to jack it up and get under it properly. Attaching to the back of the speedo is the same bit again very fiddly easier to undo the dash and pull it back to give you space or even remove the speedo as that is only held in by 2 knurled screw/ Bolts thingies. Be obvious when you see them.
