I am debating either a complete stronger rear end, (MGB disc wheel banjo?) or up rated half shafts to cope with my 18G engine transplant. The OE half shafts will not cope with the extra oomph! of this I have no doubt! So; has anyone of you chaps bought and installed the competition half shafts on offer? LH in view below. Is this a direct 'plug n play'? Will the OE hub caps fit to conceal the taper & nut? Back to you lot Bruce photo taken from Riley Record, Vol 46 #3

Hi Bruce, From the picture they look exactly like the ones on the racer. Never broken one yet - despite trying pretty hard! As far as I am aware, these are a fit n forget item - although we use minilites with ours - so cant comment on steel wheel fit. Roger. PS - OE half shafts are quite strong - they usually break when abused or kerbed while under power - hence most owners thinking about modifications fit them. Also bare in mind that the youngest 'new' shafts are now over 50 years old!

Thanks for this Roger. I have no doubt these up rated half shafts will do the job, your racer has proven this! I am simply debating economics and effort to ease my corrective action. I either splurge for the up rated half shafts, Yikes! or continue my initial thought on a rear axle housing swap. I like the swap as a neat project but getting a tad lazy in my old age. Does anyone know if this axle fits inside/behind the OE hubcap? B
