Hi everyone, I previously posted a request for help regarding the paint colours or paint codes for the engine block and rocker cover of a 1959 Mk 1. unfortunately I have not had any replies (I hope I haven't upset someone with my previous posts). I also wanted to know whether anyone knew if what colour green was used for the body paint. I have tried to post a photo of the car in its original colour green but I am not too good with computers and the photo file appears to be too big. if anyone can let me know how to upload photos I will be able to post the photo of the original green colour. All assistance regarding these matters would be appreciated.

I'm a Mark 111 man myself but have owned both Mk1 and Mk 11 cars over the years and I believe the engines on the earlier cars were normally red unlike the green colour used on later engines. The green body colour used on your car is almost certainly going to be Cumberland Green (GN 35) as shown in the photos attached. Hope that helps and happy to be contradicted if other members know otherwise. Rob

I think the red engine colour is the same as the MGA and MGB - if so, then easily obtained from several sources, including the MGOC.

In the past I have used Moss Europe MGA Maroon engine paint which was a close match at the time to my Mk1 Riley engine, you can I think buy it in both aerosol and brushing enamel. Hope this info is of some use?

Engine colour can be a contentious issue with some owners. You can have, or could have, a dead nuts match from a UK paint supplier. (below) FWIW I think Cumberland Green is a lovely Riley colour. Bruce
