Hello everybody. I'm Colin and my wife and I have been fans of the RM for a long time now. We're considering buying one that isn't too far away from us and is at what we thing seems a reasonable price but given that it's not that common a car I was wondering if anyone here might know anything about this particular one. Here's the Ebay link to it www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1955-RILEY-RME-1500-SALOON-REDUCED-TO-CLEAR/223404042274?hash=item3403eb2822:g:i6AAAOSwQmJc007sFrom the pictures supplied it looks pretty sound but is there anything we should check when we go to view the car that isn't going to be obvious from the pictures? We know very little about the cars at the moment so any advice you could offer would be most gratefully received. Thanks Colin

Colin, These are generally sturdy, reliable cars. Weak points are around the wooden body frame, especially the A pillars and the rear window frame. The boot floor and the spare wheel aperture behind the rear number plate are also prone to rust. Mechanically, check for decent oil pressure when the engine is hot, both on the road and at tickover. Otherwise, the same checks as applicable on any older car are valid and necessary. I don't know the car you are interested in, but it looks a good example from the photos. I have seen it for sale for quite a while, so it might be worth questioning why it has not sold. Rob
