Hi All, As some of you may remember my MK3 1.5 has, at some stage, been fitted with what I believe is a 1.8 MG engine. (Engine number in photo below). The exhaust manifold appears to be a 3 into 1 and will need replacing quite soon. I'm not sure what manifold is on it, the MG ones I look at appear to be 3 into 2 but it could be that I have just not found the correct one yet. I'm assuming the original 1.5 can't be fitted? Before I start going on a wild goose chase has anyone got any ideas on the best place to start or have any ideas what it might be? Thanks Darren

Hi DLM, Although it is quite a common fit, the MGB engine, there is no real 'off the shelf' manifold that will fit.
The standard 1.5 one will fit - but the small diameter pipes will be very restrictive and you will loose a lot of the extra power the 1.8 gives you. The MGA will fit - but you will need to cut a little bodywork and fabricate your own system (I've done it - not easy!). I believe the standard MGB will not work, as it exits right above the chassis rail and you dont want to cut into that!
Most people go for a bespoke system including exhaust - to ensure the max power is extracted from the MGB lump.
Hope this helps, Roger

I've had a further look at pictures and what I have fitted and it would appear to be the original manifold. I'll either need to stick with that (understand what you mean regarding power) or, as you say, get something fabricated. If anyone knows where I might get an original 1.5 one from that would help me as I'm struggling and I can also make some enquiries on custom build (again any recommendations would be good!) Thanks again, Darren.
