Too far for most of us I know but just out of interest I thought I'd share this current advert from New Zealand, asking price is equivalent to just over £5000. She looks grand and is probably as far from these shores that these little cars could reach; www.trademe.co.nz/motors/cars/riley/auction-2610720836.htm

Hi Rileyrob,
I am pleased to report the car is indeed delightful, and destined to stay in Dunedin, NZ. It is my first Riley and first B-series, and with 1622 workings seems to go like a rocket. It joins two Minors & a Wolseley 6/90. I look forward to regular reading of/interaction with the forum.

Welcome to the forum and glad to have such a far flung new member! Would love to see a picture or two of the car now that the link I posted is dead. Only around 60 Riley One Point Fives were ever exported to NZ so a very rare car in your part of the world although I know of at least 12 other survivors - must be the climate!

The Riley should have always graduated to a 1.6 and yes it must motor on just fine. I am undertaking a 1.8 transplant to my Mk 1. Don't be a stranger Bruce

...might as well get right into it then... Did all the 1.5s come out with Lucas P700s as standard? My car doesn't have them, but because I have been hanging out with old brit stuff for years, of course I have a pair (of originals!) in the shed. Will I actually notice a difference to the standard Lucas 7" reflectors? Has anyone tried LED replacements within? Of course I also have a set of Lucas 576 fog lamps (25 years in the shed, at last an opportunity). Any tips for mounting brackets please. Photo to follow next time it is out of the shed....

Always keeping an eye on ebay UK. Comparing yesterday with today..... looks like another couple have been broken for parts.

Hi Kiwimc, No fog/spot lights were fitted as standard - but were a dealer option. You could either have a Lucas 576 Spot light or 576 Fog light - I think most people fitted one spot and one fog! Enjoy your new car! Roger

Hello kiwimc I believe that headlamps were a jurisdiction requirement. Example, my Canadian car has OE Lucas reflector with BPF 45/55 watt bulb. I have a US of A buddy with OE Lucas sealed beams. As well factor in RH dip LH dip and ..... An improvement will be to clean the electrical connectors, particularly the earth points at the front wings and install relays. This will make a difference, however wire in a relay and mega improvement. I made up some relay kits for friends, high beam and dip beam. A marked improvement in the lighting. The addition of the relays will as well add to the longevity of the lighting switch. Quite easy to wire in the driving/fog lamps of your choice. The car harness is wired for these lamps, the 'F' switch on your dash. You will find a single connector in the cluster of wires up front on either side. These wire are only live when the headlamp switch is at Running lights open position. Use a test lamp to test them out. Curiously these wire do not show up on any wiring schematic for the one-point-five. I installed a relay for my driving lamp. I made a bracket for my Lucas LR 6/9 driving lamp from some 1" steel angle and 1/8" flat bar. I used the bumper blade fasteners to attach to the car, to save drilling holes anywhere. I also built and installed a relay for this driving lamp. Click on the images for a larger view. salut Bruce

Thanks for the replies. Re. changing Lucas 700s for P700sCleaning the dusty insides of the P700s was a real challenge because of the limited access due to the tripod and centre chrome/black half shield. Luckily I had two to practice on. The best clean was vigorous shaking with hot water (and small pieces of balled up lens tissue), followed by distilled water then 70% ethanol (to aid with drying) - BUT - this was enough to leave a thin film from the old rubber seals on the silver reflectors. 4 attempts later, careful swirling (reflector up), aspiration of the cleaning liquid and gentle air flow to aid drying and finally got there. BTW don't be tempted to try wiping the silver - it is very soft and will scratch. I am still to investigate whether a thin film of silastic between the glass and outer steel reflector lip (for water proofing) is a good idea, or whether under heating (i.e. lamp running) it will breathe a silicon film onto the inside of my precious reflectors. I will take your advice on the relays. Also planning on photographing the beam patterns of standard BPF 700s and then the P700s after I swap them over because I havn't managed to find any pictures anywhere on the web. Re. SFT & SLRsMy Wolseley 6/90 has a 2-position F switch that operates consecutively nearside and offside Lucas flat throw (SFT) fog lamps. Yes, I found the same apparent set-up on the 1.5 and had noted it wasn't shown on any wiring diagrams ! [Don't think our 1500 Wolseley cousins have the 2-position F switch or wiring]. I like the idea of a nearside fog and offside driving lamp (and not a pair of either), which should be quite do-able with the 2 position switch. I'll relay them and plan is to have the SLR dip with high beam. Pictures in due course...

You've probably sorted your lamp brackets by now but if not I found these in the garage - new old stock original Lucas brackets for the Wolseley 1500 / Riley One Point Five - might help you to see what the originals looked like? Rob

Thanks Rob. A big help. Can you please give me the dimensions or take another photo of a bracket sitting on graph paper. Interesting the fitting instructions say "Fit the bracket under the head of the bumper support fixing bolt as shown." My car has MM like protruding threads with nuts, not bolts.
A problem...
I have discovered that despite the bumper looking beautifully true to the nose of the car - the driver's side thread has room to squeeze a bracket between nut and bumper bracket, - the other side the bumper bracket has 3 washers behind it and the nut only purchases on 3/4 of its thread - no room for any extra bracket!
Don't know if this means car has had a shunt, or bad chassis leg repair or bumper brackets are not matching??? Need to lie down or get car up on a hoist for better look.
What sort of gap should there be between bumper and nose?

Hello kiwimc, To help determine what may be amiss I include a snip from the IPL detailing the components of the front bumper blade attachment. Both sides are the same. (click to enlarge) Let us know what you find Bruce
