I've tried to upload a photo to update my profile.
Despite 'compressing' the photo, (or so I thought) I still receive the error message
of it being "too big" to be accepted.....
Puzzled!

I raised the problem of photos with the administrator a year or so ago and was told that the 1MB photo limit is part of the terms and conditions of using the web page. In this day and age 1MB is pathetic and it's no wonder that this community is slowing dying as most people now use the Wolseley 1500 / Riley One Point Five Facebook group to communicate, with as many photos of any size being freely available.
I applaud the recent articles and attempts in the Riley Record to get the club members more 'IT aware' but when we have a club forum that is woefully out of date in its abilities it's like trying to push water uphill. If you compare this club's website with other classic car clubs websites it is really stuck in the past. So much for 'As old as the industry, as modern as the hour'!

A very good point!
I must have tried to edit my profile at some point in the past and succeeded it had escaped my memory but my other comment is still valid regarding downloading any pictures to my posts. So I am still at a loss as to why you cant load your image, as it's a compressed file it should be small enough to succeed sorry I can't be of much help.

This may or may not help.
To reduce the size of photos that I sometimes send from my Yahoo email account to friends etc. I use a programme, an app or whatever the current terminology is, called PhotoRazor. This shrinks the size of the file. It's easy to use. I know I've got an image of my 1.5 as my profile picture but not sure how I did it either. Perhaps I just used PhotoRazor over and over again until I got down to the magic and acceptable 1MB size.
I'm sure there's an easy way to upload photos to this site. I'll email the IT guru in the Record to see if a quick, well I hope it's quick, guide to uploading photos could be added to a future edition of the Record or even as a permanent guide in this website/forum.
By the way, I just had a look at the A40 Farina website for no apparent reason other to compare and contrast. Single model mark, has 420 members but has a simple, easy to use website. Looked at a random message on their active forum and it's populated with photos. The point I'm making or indeed labouring is that if this club can do it why can't the RMC. Don't get me wrong I applaud the RMC for having a website and this forum but there's always room for improvement.
I know nothing about these things but I guess there's costs associated with website design and delivery. That being the case it may be that it's not an item that's affordable. What I wouldn't want to see though is the loss of all posts on this forum. We've had that happen once before.

I'm pretty computer unsavvy but managed to stick a shot in profile. I think I opened the original in paint and resized 50% (so it is 1/4 of original). It is 967 kB so just sneaks in. Good luck.

OK, I just changed my Avatar to prove to you lot it's doable. As Graham states one needs to 'resize' the photo intended to be your Avatar Resize the intended photo to no greater than 100Kb to work well. Save this to your computer of course. Then go to your profile page; Click on Edit Profile, (top RH) select the settings shown above. Link the intended photo and it will appear. Then simply click save Avatar changes box. Bob's your uncle B
