I have a wrecked 4/72 and the bonnet badge is black enamel. The badges on the hubcaps are painted black too. Are these the original colour (black not blue)?

At last a reply. Thanks Mick. In that case, someone has gone to the trouble of re-enameling the badge in black for reasons that will never be known. I have so many questions, none life-changing, but they bother me nonetheless. Perhaps you can help with this one... It relates to chromed steel vs. stainless steel hubcaps. My '56 Wolseley has chromed steel caps, my '59 Minor stainless. In my spares I also have examples of the other way (i.e. stainless Wolseley & chromed MM). All my Riley 1.5 (and 4/72) hubcaps are chromed steel. Did the stainless come and go....? Any stainless on Rileys? The weight saving with stainless incidentally is 140 g per hubcap, over 4 wheels = 1 lb 4 oz unsprung weight. [Nothing compared to the weight of those big front drums on the 1.5 ].

Hi I have only known them be chrome plated on Farina Riley’s, but yes some BMC models did flit between both stainless and chrome. I don’t check in on here that often, but act as Farina Riley technical advisor for the Riley MC if you need any help or advice and my e mail is mickholehouse@outlook.com if you need a quicker answer on anything.

Arrived today ('trademe' NZ internet auction purchase), a stainless hubcap to fit 1.5 / 4/68 / 4/72, but no idea of its provenance. So I can confirm they exist! ...and yes, 141 g (5 oz for Luddites) lighter than the chromed steel.
