Love at first sight. What a beautiful car! One thing puzzles me though:- a rod protrudes on either side of the radiator and terminates at the front cross member. I first thought the they were brake rods, but they are two far forward for that. Can anyone tell me what they are?

I think you are looking at the bar which supports the headlamps, which are quite heavy. The body panels are too flexible to provide a stable mounting point. Rob

when braking hard, they are to stop the front axle revolving on its springs.

No Rob, I am not looking at the bar that supports the headlights. The rods that I am looking at could be mistaken for brake rods, but they terminate at the front cross member of the chassis; the one that supports the shackles. Too far forward for the brakes. And they seem to extend well back past the engine. Never seen them on any car but an MPH.
Are you sure that what they are for sprite124? Your answer seems the most likely reason for them to me, but these rods seem to extend well back in the car, way beyond the front axle.
Thank you all for your responses.
