Hi! I have inherited from my father in law, a Riley 2.6 in two tone blue. She apparently was imported from South Africa at some point, but had not been registered to be driven in the uk as there is no log book. When my father in law contacted the dvla in 2008 to apply for the original number which is still attached to the car, he was told that unless he provided proof the car had been on the road with that number, then that number would be allocated to the vehicle. He was told to contact the club (this one) and someone told him that the 2.6 in question was in a club magazine in June 1995. Now the difficult part is locating the back issue with the car in question in it! Any help would be appreciated as I do want to keep the car as original as possible, including this number. Many thanks!

Hi, I have recently taken over as club representative with the DVLA. I assume the car in question was driven for quite some time in the UK before export to S.A., so there may be a chance of recovering the original registration number. Alternatively, the DVLA would issue an age-related number if we provide the necessary evidence of the car's details. The club's archive of The Riley Record magazines is held in Coventry, so that would be a good place to start investigations. If you can provide any details about the car, I will check our records for any evidence. Regards, Rob

Rob.. i recently aquired an ex S Africa 2.6 too..has the optional overdrive, which really adds to overall driveablity.. given Im located in USA, its not really suitable to use here due to it being RHD..hoping I can find it a new home where it will be put to use.. desperately need a front overider if anyone can help.. club spares said they would try, but no results as yet.. I managed to source some parts from UK for my previous 2.6 ( which ended up in uk ) but sourcing parts for this one is proving difficult.. IF anyone is breaking a 2.6... has parts ..or knows anyone with parts, please contact me @ tim.trevithick@ yahoo.. thank you

Hi, I have only just spotted your post re the SA 2.6. I am the RMC's Technical Advisor and Registrar for the Riley 2.6 model. Yours will be the third ex SA 2.6 to have turned up in the UK in recent years! Both the previous ones have required to be registered at the DVLA and I was approached earlier this year to help with the process for the latest one to be imported. Both these cars are now successfully licensed for on road use. If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me via email berniepeal@icloud.com or mobile 07774 157555. I will need the chassis number (+engine no. if possible) and any other details you may have of its previous whereabouts. Also, what is the present registration no. of the car? Are you a member of the Riley Motor Club?
