I am surprised to find the sidelight bulbs in my car 1960 Mk2 are 12V 2.2W MES. I expected to find bayonet fittings. Have all our Rileys got these tiny threaded bulbs?

That doesn’t sound right to me, sidelights are usually 5W (GLB989?). I can’t get to mine to check at the moment.

Hi, mine are a small screw type, i put leds in mine couple of years back its a 58 car strangely one is brighter than the other i know a couple of boys with minors & one had baynet other had screw ones, one of them said when making cars back than they used what the production line had in at the time, its hidden away so no one would be any the wiser if one car had one type & another had another one, as long as the outside looked right to spec thats all that bmc bothered about ! (could be BS but i dont know)

Jonathan, Curious indeed. Gordon is spot on My MK1 and recent search, for LED replacements can confirm. This pilot bulb is a single filament 9mm bayonet base, #BFS989. The bible tells us this is a 'glaring' 6w however the available replacement bulb call up as 5w. Salut Bruce
