In the third quarter of 2018 the figures for the UK are 316 licensed and 124 on SORN which makes a total 440 if my maths are correct!

Hi Rob, I always take the DVLA figures only as a rough guide - I have a suspicion that quite a number of 1.5 RMs are included in those figures!
The register suggests that there could be around 225 on the road - but there are still quite a few new ones that appear on a regular basis. As for those on SORN - I suspect that there are a large number not registered on SORN but sitting in barns/workshops unlisted. My guestimate is that there are 225 on the road and 150 off the road (either on Sorn or just sitting around!).
This makes a figure of around 375 in the UK or around a 1% survival rate of the total production - 39,179. Obviously I havent included that numbers overseas!
Roger.
(I must at some stage total up the actual numbers in the register - time permitting!)

Hi Roger
Yep, fair comment - when you dig down into the DVLA figures there are indeed a few 1.5 litres listed as they were registered before 1957 so you're probably nearer to the truth with your figures but around the 400 mark is still quite respectable really I feel for these cars in 2019 although I have no idea how they compare with similar models from the same era.
By the way, I've often wondered, in your official capacity as 1.5 Registrar with the RMC, whether you would be able to get access to the DVLA records in more detail - reg numbers, colours etc?
Rob

I'm also wondering how accurate the data of the DVLA really is. Last december we unearthed a barnfind 1.5 in Belgium -I'll write an introduction post soon!). Beforehand, I looked up the license number on the DVLA website, and it appeard as follows: Vehicle details
✗ Untaxed Tax due: 23 June 1993
Vehicle make: RILEY Date of first registration: May 1965 Cylinder capacity (cc): 1489 cc CO₂Emissions: Not available Fuel type: PETROL Euro Status: Not available Export marker: No Vehicle status: Not taxed Vehicle colour: BLUE Vehicle type approval: Not available Wheelplan: 2-AXLE-RIGID BODY Revenue weight: Not available
I expect this car is included in the 440 total? However, the car has been imported in Belgium in 1993.
