Advice please gentlemen. I have an ailing charging system on George. Following the many diagnostic tests of the dynamo and the control box I deduced the control box is the perpetrator, so a replacement is needed. I have a choice; 1) 'inexpensive' RB106/2 control box, that needs setting up when installed according to the vendors. (not so keen) 2) more expensive 'all ready set' control box (a good option but wonder still) or 3) electronic control box. ( attractive solution, but an impact on the pocket book) www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/reproduction-rb106-and-rf95-regulators.phpI am sure by now a great many of these marvels of Lucas design have failed, and been renewed. What have you chaps done to remedy the situation? Thanks in advance Salut Bruce

I know a friendly mobile auto electrician and last time I had recon one supplied by me fitted and adjusted it cost me £30+vat not bad for around 30 mins work done at home so for me this is the action I would take.
Hope this helps?

NP Thanks Nigel, That may have been the case in Blighty but over here mention Lucas, dynamo and control box in the same sentence, and any auto electric shop, (if I can find one) gives a blank stare. I am leaning toward the electronic one just because ... however still need to have a think. I am still curious if anyone of us or other contemporary cars, (MM or Wooly etc) have gone this electronic route. The owner at CDRC is pretty 'enthusiastic' in my exchanges. Salut Bruce

I must admit that the electrician who came to see me was in his 50's so that might be an issue as much younger electricians may never have seen a dynamo, control box etc so from that point of view using an electronic control box or even a Dynomator could well be the way forward?

Nigel, Thanks again. The Dynomator option is out of reach right now, this is cost prohibitive on this side of the pond. As well I am more a OE type guy and maintain the positive earth electrics. I decided to investigate the 'new' ready to install adjusted control box. This option isn't going to break the bank and will see if this is a true 'plug n play' item. Salut Bruce
