Hi Everyone, I am hoping I am in the right place for some guidance. I have been left with my father's Riley, that when we purchased 'was' a complete vehicle. Long story short it is now apart as he was going to resto and now a "basket case" I need to sell. I do have the chassis number but can not for life of me figure the year of the vehicle to list for sale, it is becoming a dispute amongst family of the year(lol) (We are on the hunt for the ownership) The number is 38S|5338 By my google decoding skills it is a 1938 series car, with big 4, saloon....I think...help I do have pics of all parts, engine etc if anyone here would be interested.

Where are you? It may be that a member close to you can help you to identify te car. As a start, do you believe it to be pre-war, or post-war? That would be a starting point.
The cahasis number you quote is a bit unclear, it could be 38S15338. Is this correct? This would tie it down pretty much exactly.
Be warned, this forum is not known for speedy communication. Take care. Roger

Thank you for the response. I think you are correct about the serial number. I have no idea if pre or post. I am located in Windsor Ontario.

Hi there.
As I said, this forum is not known for it's speedy reponses. Windsor Ontario is a bit off the beaten track for most of us, but I,m sure someone will turn up.
As far as I can tell, looking at John PriceWilliams book 'The Legendary RM's' if the chassis number on the car is 38S15338 I think it is a 1949 RMA, one of 1,498 built in that year, and one of only 408 of that model built in Coventry, the remaining 1,090 being built in Abingdon.
If you would like to e-mail me I might be able to point you in the direction of some more help.
Roger.

Thank you for your help. This is helpful, my dad and I are originally from England (derby) hence his love for the Riley. I will email you! Cheers, Mandy

Hello Mandy.
I have information that there are at least two other Riley RM owners in Ontario, but as Ontario is a bit big that might not be very helpful!
Look forward to your e-mail.

Hi everyone, almost a year since your post date. Is the car still available ? I'm in Elliot Lake Ontario.
