I have a scraping whirring noise when I fully depress the clutch pedal. It started after some heavy use of the clutch about 3000 miles after a new clutch and bearing was fitted. It selects gear and takes up the drive with no problem. It just feels like the pedal is moving the clutch too far as it is fine if the pedal is not depressed all the way to the floor. The slave cylinder has been stripped and checked and is perfect.

Could be the throw out bearing has self destructed? This has been known to happen. If possible pop off the clutch arm rubber boot and try to look into the bellhousing? Let us know what you find. B

I would re-inforce the comment Bruce made. The carbon "release" bearing is just not up to the task. As the item was replaced recently, was it actually a genuine item or reproduction? Not easy to do, (engine or gearbox removal) but best to convert to a conventional bearing.
Cheers, Jeff.

Thanks for that. I had a look through the bell housing and it seems like the carbon thrust bearing has no or little carbon left. Annoying as the bearing that was replaced was in better condition than the new one after only 3000 miles. It was Riley Club part... I have heard that the new CTB's are nothing like as good as the originals. Where would I get a conversion kit to a conventional bearing?

I made my own from one the several bearings that I had 'lying' around. You could try anyone of the MGB specialists, Sussex MG, MGB Hive for example or Moss Europe.

Bugg*r !! no one likes a short lived clutch TOB. I would inform the RMC spares to alert them of the failure, they may have others on the shelf?. These bearings are different between models, be aware when searching. However some NOS examples to fit our cars exist. Perhaps search using part #7H3214 or #HD1069 Some link to NOS that may tempt you; www.ebay.com/itm/293071436162www.ebay.com/itm/115188032647salut Bruce .
