Some external aesthetics tell at a glance, more beneath the skin of course.
The MK1 cars have external bonnet and boot hinges. The fascia is a darker wood finish with a larger glove box. There is separate side lights and turn indicators.
The MK II cars are pretty much the same as MK 1 cars but have internal bonnet and boot hinges. The glove box is slightly smaller due to the bonnet hinges.
The MK III cars have different front grille treatment incorporating a single unit side/turn light, and a different tail light assembly. Also a a lighter colour finish fascia. The suspension is lowered .
Many other differences that someone more knowledgeable can explain.
