Evening all When I originally stripped the awful white paint from the doors, I noted there was no original paint or primer on the rotary lock assembly screwed to the rear shut face - see photo. Does anybody know whether these assemblies were in fact painted body colour, or left in bare metal (before I repaint the doors!). thanks Tony

Shouldn't be painted at all - see photo.

Let me add confusion? The door latch assembly is a zinc platted assembly and the latch pawl wants to move freely. The receiver (s) on the jamb of my car is painted? Tony, These are not so daunting to disassemble if need be to clean them up well. Once this is all cleaned up, and working as should, I zinc plated the bits and a DIY set up, can be done with a torch battery, water, vinegar and sodium carbonate along with a strip of zinc as the cathode from a Chandlery shop. Be careful this plating is infectious, and you will find yourself cleaning up bolts etc. at an alarming rate. B

Many thanks Rob - I thought I had replied this morning, but I can't have posted properly.
Bruce - interesting thought of a DIY zinc plating set-up!! The last time I encountered these latch assemblies was on an MGB I was restoring. I cheated by using the Eastwood special paints which produce the same effect. Still got them on a shelf so might see how they look, although I quite like the bare metal look in Rob's photo. Would have to keep cleaning them up though if left in bare metal.
I'll also have to take off the cleaned up and polished 'receivers' on the B posts and paint them body colour though. There is always something!
Tony.

Tony Once cleaned up and plated these door latch assembly, or any bolt, nut plate etc. will look a very sympathetic dull metal finish. One of my car buddies prefers the Yellow colour chromate look , not for me.
The plating takes about 5 seconds so no dry time like paint. Have a go you may be surprised.
