Chaps, I thought I might share this tip with you. I am changing out the flex hose for the front brakes on George. This is part of the scope of work for the disc brake conversion so these hose will be off for a while. To prevent the master brake cylinder emptying of fluid, (bloody gravity!) and damaging the body work paint, simply screw a spare bleed nipple into the coupler prior to disconnecting from the cylinder, and until ready to install the hoses. At the RH side just loosen the short brake line nut enough to pivot the line, then re tighten. Works a treat, doesn't damage the threads and saves brake fluid from leaking and making a mess. Bruce

Good tip, thanks. It will also make bleeding quicker once you reconnect those lines. Please also post what end fittings you have on your hoses. Cheers, Jonathan

Cheers, Jonathan Jonathan For my conversion I searched out a regular brake hose, with 3/8-24tpi bulkhead end fittings. These fit the flare fitting on the car as shown in my post. If using the regular drum brake set up, the hose end at the brake backplate is different of accommodate the cylinder casting & fasteners. Bruce

Bruce, that’s a good tip using the bleed screw. I didn’t think of it when I took my pipe off a couple of weeks ago but fortunately there was no fluid loss as I had already worked on the rear brakes and the system had drained.
I decided that the hose was past its best so ordered a replacement. The photo of the hose I purchased showed the extended collar you mention but the hose I have received does not have it. Curiously, the hose I am replacing also does not have the collar and looks the same as the one I have been sent. The hose on the other side does have it though. I have asked the seller to comment but guess I could use the one I have if necessary. What is the purpose of the extended fitting; is it to allow clearance of the post type nut that secures the cylinder?
Cheers Gordon

Hello Gordon, These vendors don't make it easy for us weekend garage warriors. example visit this link below www.sparepartstore24.co.uk/oen-gbh136although listed the correct number, GBH136 hose is shown, this site shows different lengths and thread sizes, Crikey!! Yes this shoulder on the cylinder end of the hose is to allow clearance for the nuts of the cylinder. One can fit a ' shoulder less' hose but if a correct one is available always better to use I should think. So; a correct fit hose is as I showed and 370mm long. I hope this info helps to avoid the pitfalls and will help you separate the wheat from the chaff. Bruce

Bruce Thanks, which disc setup did you end up using Ford or Marina? Hello Jonathan I elected for the Marina kit. The Marina hub is better suited for adapters for my road wheel conversion. The Ford kit on the other hand has vented discs? In any event my front brakes and hubs needed a wholesale sorting out so this disc kit proved a good solution. FWIW this is quite a straightforward installation. I am however investigating a fix for rotor/caliper interference. Not sure the perpetrator, caliper mounting plate? caliper casting? bearing fit to stub axle? combination of any all? Right up my alley I am not concerned. B
