Now that our 'New' forum has been running for about six months - I wondered what the general consensus was on having it still as a 'members only' forum?
I wonder what the conversion rate from guest visitor to member has been, has it been worth it? - perhaps Harris might be able to answer this?
For example, at the time of posting, there had been 6 members and 41 guests visiting us in a 24hr period - have any of these 41 been tempted to join, or are they put off by the lack of access from our 'closed door' policy.
I always understood that the ethos of our club was to promote the Riley marque and allow enthusiast to see/read/hear about them. It seems odd that in this modern age, where internet access/forums etc are used so greatly, we appear to be shunning this medium by having the shutters firmly closed to the outside enthusiast.
Is it time that the powers that be reconsidered their policy and allowed greater access to our forum?
Any thoughts anyone?

The guest figure is never really that accurate due to Google bots etc. It's probably quite hard to tell how many real people have genuinely visited. Some of the forum should stay members only but allowing people to view some of it is not a bad thing in my opinion. (i thought they could anyway?) It would be nice (for me) to see more of the experienced members cars and project work in threads but I understand a lot of the cars are "finished" now and project threads are in the old forum

Roger, I'm sure I heard somewhere that it was now open to all. I could be wrong though.

Graham, I wasn't aware of that - I thought we were still under a 'no access to non-members' rule. Sorry if I'm wrong. Harris - can you clarify? Roger

Roger The general discussion area is open for everyone to view (I've just logged out and checked). Which I guess means everything else you need to sign up for.

I would as well welcome an 'anyone can chip in' forum. I have visited many on line forums that require no registration/member to participate. I recently visited a forum for my modern ride, searching a 'gremlin' to understand before I go to the dealer to face a repair bill. I would not have bothered to 'join' if I needed to so I think this open door would be good to hear from others. Just sayin'

Harris has got the April Riley Record to produce - a long, time consuming job. Probably sometimes feels pretty thankless too. And he has a job, family, Riley to restore!! Cheers, G

Cheers, G Just worried that he's all ok that's all. I also have a job, family, forums to moderate and a Riley to restore but try to make it on on a regular basis. I worry when regular contributors "disappear" ......

I'm alive! Hello everybody! The last month has been ridiculous! The following has occurred :- I found out I was being made redundant - and so got myself a new job Kestrel has gone into the workshop and come out again Attempting to get the Kestrel ready for MOT Started a 1972 Honda C50 Motorcycle restoration project ...and confirmed we will be having a new addition to the family! So apologies for my absence!
In regards to the Forum membership... It is open to anyone to join. You have to register to post - simple security measure necessary necessary for the Forum Only 'Closed' areas are the centre activity areas where Club members can freely organise events down to the fine detail. (I'm sure you don't really want to know who has the gazebo and how it's getting to the show!)

Hi Harris,
Welcome back - you sure have been busy! Thanks for clarifying the access query - sounds like you have hit just the right balance as regards to access.
Good luck with the new job, bike resto, Kestrel MOT and new arrival!
Roger
