Spotted on a well known internet auction site! ... Auxiliary/reserve fuel tank
Having fitted one myself - I can confirm it is a pretty easy job, and makes a world of difference on the range of your 1.5!

Roger I saw that item on the auction site and immediately thought of you & your install. Do we think David P is starting to liquidate his 'collection'. I believe reading on the old forum he had a few of these in 'stock'.

Hi Harry, I actually wrote an article for the Riley Record a few years ago. This has all the information you need. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will e-mail the article with all the information and details. From memory it adds an extra 9 gallon capacity! A quick taster ... Regards, Roger

Roger Every time I see that photo I want to rush out an do this conversion. If for no other reason it is just too cool
The dual filler caps harken back to the Cooper S that spelled trouble for any mere BMC car, I suspect this dual filler caps on the Riley keep the uninitiated wondering!
I love it!

Roger, what size is that tyre? Does it fit easily (or with a little persuasion) into the tyre well?

Hi Graham,
Its a 155/R14 80S - made by Hankang (!) - fit in wheel well is good - just a gentle push and it wiggles in! However this is quite an old tyre, 2003, so I think their latest tyre may be a different tread pattern - but still cheap.

Roger
Thanks for the info. My 165 doesn't unless you more or less fully deflate it. I'll get a replacement set soon(ish).
Sent you an email earlier........look forward to hearing from you

Going back to the fuel tank bit...
Does the auxiliary fuel tank feed in to the main tank when you turn the tap, effectively refilling it so that your fuel gauge then reads the contents of your main tank again? Also, the additional filler pipe is a bit of a shame - lots of work to modify the bodywork. Couldn't just have one tank feed in to the other, with the fuel gauge reading the main (lower) tank.
You can tell I'm not looking to do this myself..

Hi Biggles, The set up in my car is an exact copy of how the BMC Competitions dept installed it in the works cars. However I am sure there are neater & more efficient ways of doing it. The auxiliary tank does not feed the standard tank. The tap just switches over between the two - so the fuel pump just pumps from whichever tank is selected. There is a fuel sender unit on each tank - so to read the fuel level in either tank there is a switch on the dashboard to change between the two, still reading on the standard guage - simples One of the works cars fitted with an auxiiary tank. Note the extra bracket on the boot floor for an extra spare wheel! Hope this is of some interest, Roger

The auxiliary tank for the Riley is, as far as I know, from the ZA/ZB.
