Well there is a first for everything with my Riley. So there I was happily trundling along the highway at about 95 kph and the rear end started to feel 'odd'. Seconds later a rather sinking feeling and flapping sounds indicated a flat tire. Ughh! No worries, I have a spare in good order, with air in it, I have the crank handle and I have a jack. I proceed to remove the hub cap, loosen the lug nuts and jack up the car. Next is to just swap over the road wheels, right? Not so easy! I did not have a correct size spanner to loosen the bolt securing the spare wheel clamp holding bolt! After a couple of expletives, I rummaged around the car and happily found a long nose plier that was adequate to loosen the bolt, phew! Here is a photo of the offending nail!
Moral of the story? Add a correct size spanner and believe that no matter how well we think we are prepared we just may not be. Of course Murphy's law states that I will never have another puncture.
