The Riley will soon be returned full of new steel and one of the refurbishment actions will be to fit some sound deadening to the doors, floor etc. I do not wish to use the fibre material anymore. I am looking at stuff like Dynamat - has anyone used it or suggest an alternative ?

There is 2 types of noise to address with 2 types of approach. One is car body borne vibration (drumming) which is best addressed using an asphalt type material, like the link. www.b-quiet.com/products/b-quiet-extreme-12sqft
this type material is supplied with a self adhesive and can be installed in the door cavities, floor panels etc. There is no need to cover the panel completely as the density of the material prevents the propagation of the vibration throughout the entire panel. Under rear seat area, (wrinkled bit is from heat of the silencer, since sorted )
The other is engine, road noise which is best addressed by absorbing the sound. This is best done with a soft / thick (12mm ?) 'fibre material ' that I understand you not wishing to use. This is best used behind the dash to combat engine noise and under the carpet to combat road noise.
I have used B Quiet asphalt material as/where mentioned , and automotive felt as where mentioned.
