A chap I know has mentioned that he knew someone who had a Riley 1.5 Sportsman. This was in a chrome script badge.
I've never heard of this. Anyone else heard of it?
I'm very intrigued......

Hi Graham,
I'm very intrigued as well!!
I guess that by 'sportsman' we are talking an estate or shooting brake? Certainly there is nothing recorded in the register that could be called an estate. The only thing I can think of is this .... But as far as I am aware this was just a BMC prototype that never made the light of day. I think it was built in 1957. However they did also build this one - which looks a little more refined (ie proper side windows!) But I have a feeling that this was just another design exercise!
There was a few years ago a 1.5 van/pickup and a weird 2 seater - both homemade - wonder if it was one of those?
If you find anything else Graham, let me know !

Graham, To rely on the mantra of the 'instagram' age,
"it didn't happen without a picture" may apply here.
Curious for sure what your acquaintance was speaking about? or perhaps you should frequent another pub?
I like the look of the second 'white' car, sort of fits the 60's 'ugly but I like it' situation. Unfortunately I do not think this design would have aged well.

The only Sportsman from this era I can remember was the Standard Vanguard Sportsman. Your chap wouldn't have got mixed up would he ?

Duncan.
It was back in the 70s so anything is possible but he's certain it was the Riley 1.5. Twin carbs etc. mentioned.
Certainly a poser and one that I reckon cannot ever be answered.
