Hi I have a pair of SU carbs AUC 864 from a Riley 1.5 1957-64 and I about to restore them and I was wondering if you could help me with some pictures/information from your club of these carbs, as to what they should look like when compleat and in situ as there are some parts missing and I don't have any pictures to start my restoration to go by. I am in contact the SU Company but they can only help with parts supply once I know whats missing. Any help would be very much appreciated. Best Regards George Axe george.axe@sky.com

Hi George, The club has rebuild kits and most other new spares for the 1.5 carbs. We also have the SU workshop manuals, but to gain access to either, you would need to be a member of the club. Half price till the end of the year, now! Cheers, Bob.

George These carburetters are quite simple devices.
The most important part to pay attention to is wear of the throttle spindles & bushes. If these are worn, (most likely are) then a machinist will be needed to re bush and fit the throttle stops. Apart from throttle spindle wear these carbs are pretty much a Lego kit.

Does anyone have/had a problem with a very stiff choke cable action ? The cable when disconnected is free with no restriction to movement. Harry

I have had this problem some time ago it was caused by a bent main jet. After overhauling the carbs and future proofing them by fitting Burlen Fuel Systems latest Gland Kit (which replaces the Cork seals with Viton Rubber and the Gland assy is made from a material that is not affected by Methanol) along with new jets this cured the problem. If you are a member of the Riley Motor Club there is just such an article in their last magazine. Hope this is of some help?

I am a member and the article was very informative. Thanks for the reminder, it will be a job for the winter. I think that you mean Ethanol and not Methanol. H

I wish that I could be correct more often but I usually fail miserably. H
