Hi all, Can anyone tell me if RM front wheel hubs fit either side? If not, how do you tell the difference between them? We have a club member with a worn hub and we don't know if any 2.5 front hub will fit. Cheers.

They fit either side. There are differences, I think, between very early ones and most of them. Don't forget to use the correct wheel studs. They changed to unified in the last years.

it was common practice to put left hand treads on the left hand hubs of contemporary cars..not fully sure on the rileys..but 'other' contemporary BMC cars did follow this practice.. which lasted well into the mid 1950s.(and well beyond on commercial vehicles) . other than that.. front hubs should be interchangeable left to right...if you ARE swapping to the other side..be sure to replace the bearings..which will have bedded in to opposite rotation.. or minimally..remove, and thoroughly clean and inspect them..and place if there is any visible wear with a 40x magnifier.. .

Having a pair of RMC front hubs on the bench as we speak, I can confirm that there are no discernable differences between left and right. The big problem with RMB/C hubs is 'spread'; i.e. due to the stresses on the hub as a result of cornering, the inside of the hub stretches, as a result of which the inner bearing becomes slack in the hub, at which point it moves more, wears, moves more, and so on. There is not currently a solution to this problem, a redesign is really necessary, but of questionable financial viability.
All the wheel studs are RH thread.
Be careful when dismantling hubs and re-assembling; a large hammer and punch or cold chisel is NOT the way to proceed. The job needs a C-spanner or very similar to avoid seriously damaging the hubs and nuts.
