Last week a road going 1.5 sold for £9240 at auction - I wonder if this is a record? Superb 1.5 sold at auction.I know of an ex-Goodwood racer that sold for more - but that was a special car. I don't recall an other cars going for more than £10,000 - I wonder if this is a sign that our cars are at last being appreciated Cheers, Roger

Blimey! I was offered £6,000 a couple of years ago when mine was on the RMC stand at the Restoration Show at the Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet and after the chap originally offered £3,750 to which I said no to he kept coming back with increased offers. I just kept saying Mabel isn't for sale.......and she still isn't.

Bravo, this is brilliant. The car is very well presented for sure. At auction price this may well indicate; " this is a sign that our cars are at last being appreciated ", and I will add it is about time.
The car is in your register Roger, and the mileage seems to align.
I wonder if it overheats?

When you consider than an MGA ( many more of which were produced..over 100k MGA's and is much less car and has the same basic engine and box ) costs around $8-$10k for a 'mediocre' example with a myriad of 'issues' ... and consider the cost to properly restore a riley 1.5 ( skys the limit.. minimally $15k) and really decent Z magnette's are commonly in the $10-18k category... the equvanlet of $14k for a 'good' riley 1.5 seems very reasonable.. here in USA ( which does not have the awful corrosion problems in my area that commonly afflicts cars in uk) they have been selling at around $7,500- $8,500 in 'good' condition..one ( a car I used to own ) did not make its reserve price on 'bring a trailer' last year.. bidding went up to apporox $9,250 as i recall (Damask red car...Its still visible on that site) last one i purchased in UK ... after looking at over 20 of what were described as 'good' examples from 1,500 to 5,000 in a period of 3 yrs ( they were all close to scrap in my opinion.. badly comprimised cars full of patches and filler) I settled for a one previous owner car with 54 k orig miles that had been derelict and garaged stored for almost 2 decades.. by the time Id got it into good shape, and in a condition acceptable to me to enjoy, my outlay was well in excess of 12k.. I sold it to a club member in london area for approx 4k as i recall.. likely close to a decade ago though.. I have several mostly rust free examples (all LHD) here that are heading to the crusher soon.. its not worth the time and effort to restore them unfortunately.. nor can i find the time to pull parts of them for people who need the bits..
