As above in the title. Be so great full of anyone has a Speedo drive that would fit my 1960 mk1 that they would sell me. Are our gearboxes the same as the Wolseley 1500? Or any other gearboxes to help my search elsewhere. Thanks I’m advance

I believe there are several versions of the speedo drive.. for sure the speed heads have different numbering as regards the TPM ( turns per mile) ..gearbox was shared with the W1500..but there are minimally 3 different versions of gearbox .. the early Mk1 has a different gearbox mounting arrangement .. basically the gearbox on early cars has the same tailshaft housing as the pre/59 MGA.. and has a round metal adaptor that goes inside the round mount hole... mid to late production of the Mk1, the gearbox mounting set up was changed along with the speedo drive gear ratio and a corresponding speedo head.... the later mounts are same as used on MGB ..2 rubber/metal mounts that bolt to either side of the tailshaft housing with 2 bolts to the box and one stud and nut to the crossmember for each mount ... best bet is to look at you speedo and see what the tpm is ( this is the last of the ID numbers and make a note of this number in case you have to replace the speedo head .. it will 4 digits and someone like '1240') if your car was made in late '59 early '60 it likely has the later gearbox mount set up.. as i recall they all carry the same speedo gear ratio post 1962 ... what normally happens is the nut that holds the steel gear onto the shaft comes loose and then any resitance ( such as kinked cable..or dry and tight speeded head bearing) will cause the gear to slip on the shaft, giving variable speedo readings.. the fix requires removal of gearbox , removal of tailshaft housing and tightening up the nut that holds speedo drive gear to shaft.. always wise to clean its thread up and ad a drop of 'locktite' to the threads before bending the lock tab back over on to the nut.. BUT :- before doing any of this..remove the nylon gear and its housing from r/h side of gearbox, in order to investigate the cause.. any damage to the nylon gear indicates a problem with resistance.. either the cable or the speedo head has 'issues' ..early versions are held in with one large nut.. laters ones with 2 x 1/4" ( 7/16" socket or spanner) bolts..
